The Ashmolean Spiral | Gilded Medieval Bestiary Dice Tray
The Tale
Step into the scriptorium of the 13th century. This octagonal dice tray features a centerpiece inspired by the legendary MS. Ashmole 1511 bestiary. The dragon, captured in a graceful, spiraling curve of neck and tail, has been meticulously hand-painted with acrylics and metallic gold to mimic the shimmering gold leaf of an illuminated manuscript.
Framed by Dark Walnut-stained birch plywood and featuring intricate square quatrefoil cutouts, the tray reveals a natural birch base beneath the art, creating a stunning visual depth. Each roll of the dice across this gilded beast feels like a turn of a page in a forgotten tome. Sealed with polycrylic for a smooth, protective finish that honors the art and the game alike.
Centerpiece: Hand-painted "Spiral Dragon" from MS. Ashmole 1511, accented with metallic gold.
Architecture: 150 mm Octagon with Gothic diamond quatrefoil side cutouts.
Two-Tone Finish: Rich Dark Walnut sides and top; natural, unstained birch base to highlight the painted artwork.
Dimensions: 150 mm x 150 mm x 30 mm (5.9" x 5.9" x 1.2")
Protection: Double-sealed with polycrylic for durability and a consistent rolling surface.
