The Bestiary Satyr: A Fragment of the Aberdeen Woods
Resurrected from the vellum pages of the 12th-century Aberdeen Bestiary, this woodland spirit has escaped the illuminated borders to keep watch over your modern dwelling.
The Tale
In the medieval mind, the Bestiary was more than a book of animals; it was a map of the moral and spiritual world. Our Bestiary Satyr is a faithful recreation of the whimsical, hoofed creatures that danced through the margins of these ancient texts. With his characteristic medieval silhouette and curious expression, he represents the "Grotesque" style that celebrated the wild and the wonderful.
The Craft
We have kept this piece in its most honest form—unsealed and natural—to mirror the tactile feel of an artisan's woodcut block.
Source: Inspired by the legendary Aberdeen Bestiary (circa 1200 AD).
Material: 1/8" Birch Plywood, providing a sturdy, substantial feel.
Finish: Natural & Unsealed. The raw wood grain allows the laser-charred details to stand out with deep, earthy contrast. Over time, the natural wood will develop a unique patina, much like the aging pages of a medieval manuscript.
Dimensions: Approximately 3" x 3"—a perfect "fragment" of history for any magnetic surface.
A Gift for the Antiquarian
Whether they are a lover of art history, a collector of strange beasts, or a Dungeon Master seeking inspiration for a forest encounter, this satyr serves as a bridge to a time when the world was still full of mystery.
